Making an independent magazine can be tricky. Meeting deadlines, discussing the ideas and compromissing. We first started with the idea of an art blog, which later on grew to be a magazine as well. First few designs of the banner where completely different, but we did settle for a combination of violet, yellow and lime green.
First designs for the banner
After a few unsuccesful tries I’ve decided to go with a bit of a flower – power vibe – flowers, swirls and pretty girls. It’s an art magazine after all right?
Two versions of the banner
It was a different story for the first issue cover. The references we had were mostly modern geometric or fashion magazines, which as great as they are don’t go with the general vibe of the magazine we wanted to create. But the style, colour palette and fonts were set so I end up with variations of one of the graphic I made for that use.
It was all trial and error, a lot of research and pinterest boards, seeing different colour combinations, different layout all knowing that I’m very new to this. But at last we’ve made it –
